I think that we all can relate to this even in the (current) age. Life throws challenges at all these characters, and I think not everything is perfect, you know, and not everything is a unicorn land with rainbows and sparkles and roses.
Picerno doesn’t want to give away too many plot details, but she will allow that “there are a couple of surprises, plot-wise. The action in “Love Never Dies” picks up 10 years after “Phantom,” and both lead characters have changed over the course of 10 years. … Like any human, she’s a living, breathing character, and it’s really exciting that even right now, the Christine Daae that I am right now is more evolved than the one I began with in rehearsal in August. Picerno has been playing Christine for 10 months, and she has discovered after more than 250 performances that the character is “still evolving. But she said that her opera training is crucial to her having the stamina to perform the demanding role night after night. The role of Christine is a vocally challenging one, even for an experienced opera singer like Picerno, who performs in six shows out of eight each week.

“You chip away, little by little, and you really study, and then once you have the essence of her, then I wear the skin that is Christine, and I infuse my own experiences, my own heartbreak, my own joys, my own successes, my own abandonment, and that’s how I start to build the character,” Picerno said.
